I read 'The Comfort of Crows' for book club, although I had it on my list a few months before that after it came across my desk at work. It's a nonfiction memoir about nature and the author's relationship to the natural world specifically in her Nashville backyard. It mostly follows a 2020 pandemic year, although plenty of moments of reminiscing over the author's life is included, but is brought back to the theme of the month/season.
I enjoyed this book, mostly for the nature reflections, and the slow appreciate of nature. A book like this is always going to skew heavy on the author's life, whether or not it's interesting or relatable, and I would've appreciated less. The essays being collected in seasons is great, and creates a common theme where there may otherwise be none.
I bought a copy of this book at a bookstore, and enjoyed reading a short essay or two before bed each night over the course of several weeks. It's certainly not a binge-able book, and is best read in small quantities so it doesn't become repetitive or meaningless.

From the description I knew this was going to be a story that hooked me but its truly the writer's style that made me finish the entire thing within 24 hours. The author has a way of mixing emotional highs and lows with descriptions that feel like a walk in the woods. I can see myself returning to this story again, maybe in the next season.
