Subtly creepy until it becomes incredibly creepy with a main character I love.

This definitely gave me chills! Read with my wife as an audiobook to ring in October, and it was a fittingly creepy read.
T. Kingfisher has a way of writing characters that makes the reader feel as if they truly are being told everything rather than just reading.

Creepy and eerie! Has that patent T Kingfisher sense of humor and Sensible Main Character. Perfect for the start of Autumn reading if you save horror books for Halloween season and want a warm up scare

I loved this take on Poe's classic, the mystery of Madeline's illness and the lively personality of the narrator kept me glued to the page. I don't usually go for horror but I love Kingfisher's fairy tale-type work so much that I'm reading all her stuff, and I enjoyed this one a lot. Her protagonists are so real, and very informed by their lived experiences, and Alex is no exception. I read it in one sitting (on a plane), it's a quick little page turner.

Good retelling of Edgar Allen Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher. Creepy and modernized. Like with zombies, you end up never fully trusting that they are actually dead for real dead. Psyche is never the same (if you were really living out the story of these characters).
