Hmmmmm....

What to say about this....I really enjoyed section 1. Like a lot a lot! Section 2 was confusing yet kept me engaged. Section 3 was a toss up for me. The romance was good and the storyline picked up in intensity compared to section 2 but I began feeling like I was starting to skim read. It ended well and on a good note and I did enjoy the plot and idea behind this!

To say that I am surprised by how much I enjoyed this book is an understatement. After reading Carve the Mark and Fates Divide I went into this one with pretty low expectations and I was pleasantly surprised how much I really liked this novel. I love me some end of the world good against evil, teenagers defeating an evil dark force storyline. This novel explores 10 years after the defeat and how our saviors are coping and OMG I love this concept is brilliant. This is a very character driven novel and our main character Sloane is someone I became so invested in. I highly recommend this one.

I liked this a lot. I found Roth's first trilogy to be a mixed bag - it started strong but never went anywhere interesting so I'm a little nervous about what will come next, but I actually thought this worked well as a stand-alone. Sloane was an interesting character; she felt realistically damaged by her experiences and upbringing, but also reacted in a believable and readable way. The interpersonal dynamics between the characters worked for me. Most importantly, I dug the setting. Parallel worlds are my jam and Roth's world building was thoughtful.

I read an e-ARC through NetGalley

I liked the idea of this book more than execution. Love the magic meets multiverse angle. Sloane is a character with so much potential, but the other characters needed a bit more fleshing out. The ending wrapped up way too quickly and didn’t match the pace of the rest of the book. I find it hard to believe that this suppose to be a series because it was written as a standalone.

I LOVED the first half of this book, the second half lost me a bit. I was so hopeful that this was going to be a fantasy book that I thoroughly enjoyed front to back.

Sloane is an awesome main character and I loved her conflicts in the first half of the book because they were easy to imagine. But the second half gets into a lot more world building that is tough for me to wrap my head around and the action scenes were tough to picture for me.

Overall the ending felt like a nice bow and I'm not sure where the next book in the series will go except I did hear that the second in the series might have been cancelled, which I would be glad because this could easily be a good stand alone book.

I adore Veronica Roth's books but I was nervous starting this as I had seen a lot of bad reviews. I shouldn't have been worried as Roth did it again and made me thoroughly immersed into this new book.
There were a few things that made this book for me. The first is the lead female Sloane. She is a complete anti-heroine. She is neither good nor bad, she has a violent, rude and selfish side but also a caring, selfless and protective side. I adored her wit and sarcasm and lovednthe journey she went on both physically and mentally.
The second thing is the imagination of parallel universes and the differences between the two. They were so interesting and I loved the fact we had maps so we can see the similarities and the differences.
The third thing was the magic. I LOVED it. It was so interesting and unique and I loved how the worlds treated magic differently. It was so interesting to see it at work and also how each individual character interacted with magic differently.

The writing was fantastic and I looked forward to picking it up to read more - always a sign of a great book. I have no idea where the next book will take us as this could easily have been a standalone and ended here so it will be interesting to see how Roth continues the story. I can't wait!

This book literally took me a month to read because it was so painfully slow that I kept putting it back down. I hated the feeling of missing something like I was reading the second book...but that is how she intended it to feel like. I really didn’t care for Sloane because she wasn’t a person anyone can connect with so how is she even romantically involved with Matt?
I finally made myself finish it because I thought the ending would make it worth the struggle. I.was.wrong. The ending felt rushed and didn’t even make sense. What was this book even about? I am throughly disappointed. I have loved every other Veronica Roth universe and this universe could be awesome but this storyline was absolutely terrible.
