A new to me author and one I will definitely read again.  I like strong female leads, especially ones like Marnie Rome that are flawed and all too human.

Marnie and Noah are trying to talk to a witness in a women's shelter when they inadvertently stumble into the aftermath of a stabbing; Hope has stabbed her violent husband who managed to gain entry into the refuge, but ultimately all of the other residents have a slightly different memory of what happened.

Marnie must piece together what happened, whilst struggling with echoes of the brutal killing of her own family five years previously.

At times this was quite a challenging read, and occasionally I was frustrated by the mistakes made by Marnie and Noah (but again - human!) but on the whole a page-turner that left me wanting more of this cop duo
