I have very mixed feelings about this book, and about this series as a whole. I can recognize its literary excellence - the worldbuilding is extremely clever, the characters are complex and believable, the plot is tense and compelling. But at the same time, the main character goes through such an intense corruption arc, and makes so many poor choices, that she was frustrating for me to read about. (I normally love a good corruption arc, but paired with bad decision-making it just became annoying.) This series is also full of lots of stark depictions of the brutality of war, and that made it hard to get through as well. 

So, ultimately, this book is brilliant in a lot of ways, but it's also a downer to read and not for everyone.
