3.5. It was good, but not nearly as much of a comedy as I feel the cover leads you to believe. I was (and remain) extremely concerned for these characters! It was a bit distressing.

Surprisingly entertaining, bit mad about the short ending though.

Imagine if the family from "The White Lotus" was dropped into [b:One Second After|4922079|One Second After (After, #1)|William R. Forstchen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1316728333l/4922079._SY75_.jpg|4987669] and you'd have a good idea of what this book involves. The family dynamic was very well written. There are a few narrative strings that were left unanswered,
Spoilerthe cause of the "apocalypse" for one
, which makes me think this was/is intended as a beginning novel in some kind of series. But that also made the characters and world seem more real, because this was just a little vignette into the lives of ordinary people and they would get all the answers they're looking for so why should we.

Rounded up from 3.5 stars. I really liked this character driven dystopian suburban story. The ending made me so frustrated!

Pretty much a knock off of the One Second After books by John Matherson. Without the religion.
