Out of my heart is about a girl named Melody who has special needs. Melody longs for some independence and begs her parents to let her go to sleep-away camp. Melody faces fears meets new people, and has a very crazy summer experience. I loved that Sharon Draper wrote the characters so that the reader feels as if they are standing there right in the story. The one thing I didn't like about this story was that the story had a couple parts when I started to cringe. I would recomend this book to anybody searching for a realistic fiction book with a little twist.

Out of my Heart is an amazing work. I love the way that the author helped me dive deep into what the character was really thinking, and I found Melody's struggles to be relatable in some parts. Going to camp for the first time, meeting totally new people. It was different from other books that I had read, and I really enjoyed it.

This book is a part of a series, it is the second book. The characters felt real to me. This is because she has a disability and many people struggle with disabilities. The story kept me guessing on what would come next and what would come next wasn’t very expected. I wish the ending was a little more dramatic like how other parts of the book were. Overall I liked the book and if you like to read about problems in the real world this is the book for you.

3.5! Melody’s growth and healing done in this book is so great to read. Pushing herself and trying new things, the disability representation that goes on in this book was bringing tears to my eyes.. truly amazing read.
