Not my favourite ancient conspiracy theory, but interesting none the less. The plot itself is fine, I didn’t love it but it was enjoyable.

What you have to remember with these books is that they are fairly similar to a good action movie - lots of entertainment and plot. The Cotton Malone series elevates itself with the discussion of historical accuracy in the epilogue.

The really impressive thing, though, is how Steve Berry has managed to write a book about the nazis, with two grandchildren of a proud nazi as forward characters, and even that nazi himself with both utter condemnation of nazism and actual nuance. He also successfully depicts a heavily racist character without the stereotypical excessive use of the N word, which is a depressingly common failing.

So, weirdly, while this wasn’t my favourite book in the CM series it is potentially the most technically written and succeeds well in conveying a story about grief and loss, familial expectations, duty, and revenge.
