Pros:
- Before Ch21, the book was very funny and entertaining. Some parts made me cringe, but still a lot of fun and gave me a good laugh.
- I found Dandelion (also known as Dani), the heroine, to be humorous for the most part. Her inner thoughts were the best and over the top ridiculous.
- Smut scenes were very well written, still had comedy sprinkled in. Tho, didn’t ruin the scene for me. It was all dumb but in an amusing way for me.
- Dandelion’s dad was the best side character and had the most genuine apology out of all the characters that has wronged her.
- I thought I wouldn’t like Mari, but I ended up being interested in her story and her side after finishing this book.
Cons:
- Ch21 is where shit hits the fan and gets worse the more I read.
- Dani was WAY too forgiving towards the people that hurt and betrayed her trust. We had a few chapters dedicated to her past from childhood to teenage years. Showing Tiffany’s (the bully and Jacob’s ex) prank and the night Jacob stood her up. I felt the hurt Dani felt as I read those chapters. All it showed me is that those incidents contributed to Dani’s trust issues and her low self esteem, believing that no man would want her.
- Tiffany and Jacob’s apology were so half baked that I didn’t feel anything except frustration. Like as if they got off easy and Dani is just cool with them now. Even when Jacob tried to make it up to her, the
mock-prom happened and ended so quick that I didn’t feel anything from it. - Dani would still think back on the past memories and how painful it was even after their apologies. So it’s clear that it still stings (no surprise).
- Jacob ruined whatever likability he had until it was revealed
he took inspiration off of Dani’s designs for the flower arrangement competition, tried to hide it from her, AND made no attempt to tell the truth and finally showed guilt after getting caught by Dani. Dani is rightfully hurt and pissed. But guess what? The last few chapters of the book tried way too hard to make as if DANI was in the wrong and she should give Jacob another chance because ‘people make mistakes and people aren’t perfect’.Her BEST FRIEND and Tiffany (the freakin bully) talked about Jacob on how she should give him a chance and hear him out cause ‘people mess up and if he knows he’s being a douche then he deserves to be heard out’. It was like saying “I’m not SAYING you should forgive him buuuut no one’s perfect and you should hear his side.” Imagine if Dani said this to Mari after she revealed that David (her husband) cheated. - Here’s the thing tho… this whole book WAS about giving Jacob a second chance after what he’s done on prom night yet they’re asking Dani to give him ANOTHER one after hurting her and breaking her trust again?? Maybe it’s just me, but I just can’t imagine having to forgive someone that easily after breaking my trust TWICE and expect the relationship to be smooth sailing in the future.
- Jacob doesn’t face any consequences and when Dani gave him a piece of her mind, she’s made to look like the bad guy. Fantastic.
- Book tried to make Jacob look so ‘noble’ by
giving her back the competition money and rightful 1st place title, but I still didn’t feel anything cause it’s like saying Jacob can hurt you and break your trust all he likes as long as he makes up for it later. I wasn’t into it. It ended up being a frustrating experience. - He and Dani had no romantic chemistry whatsoever and I swear if it wasn’t about sex, their convos usually lead to something unpleasant or things got awkward.
Overall:
I’m honestly upset because it started out SO good. If it wasn’t for the rest of the book after Chapter 21, this would’ve been one of my favorite lighthearted, fun reads. I can’t remember if a book has ever legit pissed me off as much as this book has done. Jacob was such a terrible love interest/protagonist. Dandelion deserved SO much better than what this book has done. Would’ve been a better book if it was actually Dani getting over her trust issues and being wrong about Jacob and overcoming her inner demons. And actually start talking and being honest, something she was afraid to do. Despite finding Dani’s sisters interesting and would’ve loved to read about their romances in the next books. Though, after this one, I’m not sure if I will.

I tried to be as honest as I could, and I expected the same of other people. Should've been simple, right? Except honesty is apparently one of the hardest things ever for people. -Dandelion (Page 24)
