He is a King in more than just name. His writing is superb and a storytelling style that is unmatched. Such a great book and I love that it tied back into some of his other stories. Looking for the Easter Eggs in his books is so much fun and these connected well.

I love when Stephen King does books like this. Most of my favourites by him are the non-supernatural stories with a dash of real horror, and this is one of them.
I've never read a book written this way and I think it's a really interesting POV, with the whole book being told first-person as Dolores tells the police about her life and mis-adventures. The fact that there's no section breaks made it more real, and I loved the Maine accent that came through in the writing. It is rambling enough to come across and realistic, but not rambling enough that the reader gets bored. Ironically, for a book told from the POV of a woman telling a long-winded story, it's one of King's best-edited books in terms of length and content!
The story comes together across the years. This is the one and only book of King's that actually had me laughing while reading...the sections about Vera and her stubornness and meanness towards Dolores were told in such a funny way that I couldn't helf laughing out loud at the way she describes things. King doesn't always do female characters justice, but I liked that this book was not only from the point of view of a woman, but there are strong female characters too.
There's a dash of horror in this, but it's minor and it's much more grounded. This is the sort of horror I like and the sort that King does really well.
Definitely one of King's better (if unfortunately lesser-known books), I really enjoyed it.
