… a frenzy fit is not one quarter so pernicious; it is an exercise to the body and if not too violent, is, I dare say, conducive to health in its consequences — Run mad as often as you choose; but do not faint.”

this was soooo fun!!!!! i haven't read any of austen's juvenilia before, and 15 year old austen is just like me fr. it's ridiculous, goofy, satirical, and in the essay i just wrote i argued that it's basically just austen writing fanfiction for all the novels she reads. the characters don't have a lot of depth and it's all very silly because of the parody-like nature of it (waiting for your best friend to finish her fainting spell so you can have yours when there's only one couch, hallucinating about all the meals to skipped to look beautifully consumptive, convincing your friend that if your father approves of the man you likes, said man must be evil) but that's all part of the charm. i can't wait to read more of austen's juvenilia, especially her history of england.

This was my first Jane Austen book and I loved it! I wanted to read this one first because I knew it would be a bit different from her novels. I did some extra reading and apparently many people disregard this book because it was written when Ms. Austen was a young adult. Knowing that fact just impressed me even more! This book hilariously captures how (many, not all) women deal with love and friendship. I laughed out loud many times at the ridiculousness of the characters, but definitely saw myself in some of them. I think everyone should read this book!

I decided to start reading Jane Austen's books and started from here, as I know these are some of her first works. I admit it is nothing mind-blowing, but there is something so soothing about it idk. Plus it is just so easy to read, so fast-paced... Can't wait to read more from her.
