I'm so excited to see how this one plays in out in the next book. Wynter is home after a 4 year absence and forced into participating in these trials to become Alpha. She is weak and untrained but determined to beat her awful mother at her own game. There is also the issue of two men (wolves) taking an interest in her, though this interest isn't completely one-sided.
I liked this! The trials seem crazy, and I can't wait to see how Wynter will grow and adapt throughout. I totally want her to come out on top! Can't wait for book 2.

I was so incredibly excited about this book! I have to admit that Mila Young and I don't always have a click (personal preference), but I do usually have a click with Rosemary Johns. I was therefore also a little bit nervous, but the synopsis just sounded too good and there was no way I was gonna say no to the chance to read an arc for this book. So, yesterday morning I crossed all my fingers and started reading, hoping I was gonna love it.

This book is incredibly addictive and amazingly well paced. The writing styles and plot styles of both authors are mixing so incredibly well in this book. I'm sure that fans of either author are gonna love the result of their combined effort. The authors take their time to introduce the world and the characters to us, but they do so in a way that it's still interesting and exciting, especially because there are some nice action scenes in between the more emotional ones.

The emotional scenes were true gems however. All the emotions were vivid and raw and it was so easy to relate to the characters and what they were going through because I could really feel their emotions and how their hearts and souls were breaking at times. I love how all those characters therefore became more than fierce wolves trying to become Alphas. They all experienced hurt and loss and sacrifice and therefore also desire and longing and wishes.

On top of that I loved the politics in this book! Since we're spending time in both the mind of a Sun Wolf, a Moon Wolf and a Shadow Wolf we see all sides of the current situation and we understand why each of them wants and even needs to change the status quo. But, all the other players also come with their own agenda, wishes and goals and more than once ugly games are played to win in the end. I can't wait to see how this all continues, especially after that intense cliffhanger!

Now here's a book to lose yourself in. Winter is a hybrid, half human, half wolf shifter and for the last 4 years she has lived with her Dad in New York. But with his death, the time comes to return to her mother's house in Fable. Her mother is the alpha and there are 3 types of wolves, sun wolves are at the top of the hierarchy, then come shadow wolves and then moon wolves. When Wyn is told by her mother to compete in the Wolf Trials and to WIN or else she will have to mate the winner, Wyn embraces her own strength and throws herself into the challenges. This book is great, a lot of world building and character development and a story that really sucks you in. Will she choose the boy that was her best friend as a child and has grown into a sexy Moon Wolf or the mysterious newcomer Shadow Wolf or will Wyn decide to fight for herself and show them all how much stronger she is, than they think.

Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Supernatural
Pace: Medium
Format: Kindle
From: Kindle Unlimited
Pages: 326
Rating: 4*
Quotes: "We're not just going to win, we'll destroy the whole damn game". "When I left, I was only a weak kid, known as Wyn. But now I’m seventeen, been through so much, and if there’s strength in pain, then I’m strong now. I’ve earned the name Wynter."

Sun, Moon and Shadow wolves normally live quite peaceably together until the hunt is on for a new Alpha and the Wolf Games is announced. An interesting concept for this story especially since the main female wolf is a hybrid (her father human, her mother the current Alpha) and is forced to compete upon her return after her father's death.

Each faction has 3 wolves enter the Games where they are fighting against the other groups but also each other. A really well written story that is packed with detail and adventure, with a splash of romance on the side. The complex nature of some of the relationships is believable too (especially the battle between a newly determined Wynter and her mother). It was easy to delve straight into this new world and the authors have created a simple world but developed it into something full of secrets and intrigue without making everything too difficult to connect with.

The only thing I didn't like in the story (which took away from the pacing of the book a little) was the repetition between POVs. For instance, seeing the same instance again through one of the other character's eyes but not really adding anything new. Just little pointless page fillers really. I don't have a problem with stories being written from different POVs (as long as it's only between 1-3 characters) and I usually like getting a taste of their personalities and a look at their thoughts. It was just the repetitiveness on occasion that I didn't connect with. I wanted to know what happened next, not recap what had just happened.

I would absolutely recommend this book and am looking forward to reading the next one in the series. Can't wait to see what happens next, especially after the shock ending of this one.

Wolf Trials is the first book in Mila Young’s and R.A. Johns’s new paranormal romance novel, The Shadowmate series and you are not going to want to miss this book. Wynter is a hybrid wolf, part human- part wolf. She’s returning home for the first time since her father swept her away from the pack. His passing has her coming back home, but she’s not prepared for what is waiting for her.
Wolf Trials is an engaging upper YA paranormal romance novel. The author introduces readers to a variety of characters. Some you are going to be drawn to and others you are going to truly despise. Wyn is a hybrid wolf thinking that she’s simply coming home a little over a month after the passing of her dad. She has no idea that something huge is waiting for her and that her mother intends to use her as a pawn to retain the power she has clung to.
These two authors work together to write a truly interesting novel that grabbed my attention from the first page. I eagerly delved deeper into this book to learn more about the various characters. Each chapter is dedicated to a specific character and a page at a time you gain a little insight at a time about them. I have mixed feelings toward one of the guys because on one hand, he seems to care about Wyn, but when the Trials are announced he envisions the Sun Wolves serving them for a change. It pricks my irritation because I think that he should want true change, not a reversal of roles. Granted, Wyn irritates me with a dumb choice that she in turn makes. She’s forced into the Trials via threat, but to turn around and think that running away is the answer? She’s risking another’s life to save her own skin.
The romance is gradually building and I have some thoughts as to where things are going. I’m crossing my fingers at this point that things are heading in the direction I hope they are. LOL! Watch me be disappointed. The ending has a strange twist, but I’m eager to learn how the characters react and what happens next.
I’m rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. This book is a good choice to pick up if you enjoy paranormal romance with a sense of impending doom. I’m definitely recommending this book and I can’t wait for what comes next.
