A great but heartbreaking book. Written from the boy’s perspective it really adds another level of depth to it. The naïveté of the young kid versus the horrendousness of their situation is a great juxtaposition! This book is so sad that you wanna take breaks every now and then but also so great and compelling that you can’t put it down!

the main character was really loveable. I enjoyed seeing the childlike perspective, it was very interesting to realize just how he saw the world. I wish the first "section" of the book was longer, that it was more detailed about the history between the mom and the man and his life in the room. the whole takes place in the span of like 2 weeks, I feel like it could have been drawn out more.

so much of the focus was on what life was like after. but I'm already familiar with the world they entered. while it wad interesting to see him adjust to everything, I already know this world. theres very little novelty to me and I wanted more of Jack's perspective on *his* world, not mine.
