This is a story aimed at "Tween readers" and I guess I should disclaim I am friends with this first-time author.

The story is set in a small town called Witchfield on the slopes of a mountain with an abandoned mine. The main character, Katie, has the usual ups and downs... A best friend who is acting a little weird; a mother who believes in witchcraft and magic and so is a bit of a hippie-outcast; and the "cool crowd" at school who everyone loves to hate. Her life is pretty normal, actually, and then some weird things start happening and she discovers perhaps things aren't really all that they seem. She makes a new friend and together they set out to unravel what is happening to Katie and, in the process, end up having a bit of an adventure.

I enjoyed the story. I can't really speak for the target reader audience though :)
