A book which really champions the cause of both climate change and threatened languages. The essays varied from glorious and magnificent to thought provoking and somber but they all taught me something. The thing that took this book to 5 stars though were the inclusive, thoughtful, honouring values underpinning every word. Truly wonderful to read.

This was an interesting and unique read.

Nancy talks about the meanings snow in 50 words.

And with each word offers a myth and story.

A perfect little read for the winter months.

This completely took me by surprise!
There are 50 chapters in this book, each titled with a different word for snow from various locations around the world. Although at first glance it appears to be just about snow, this beautiful and fascinating book is more of a journey through different cultures, mythology, linguistics and climate change. The concise chapters are all so different that it never seems a chore to read and I loved all 50 of them (although my 2 favourites are Chapter 2 'Yuki-onna' and 41 'Hagelslag')
A great read for the winter and very well written.
