A very sparse and "Continental" version of feminist history. I.e., the creators seem to know and care much more about feminism and philosophy in Germany and France than anywhere else. There were some interesting tidbits and stories in this book that I didn't know before, but the illustrations are mediocre and bland when they could have presented a much more interesting story-telling aspect to this history. Some of the important women in ancient history, as well as 18th-21st century points in feminism are either ignored entirely or just barely mentioned and glossed over in a way that gave me the impression the authors don't really comprehend the significance.

It's true that, based on the introduction establishing the parameters, they accomplished what they [cl]aimed to do. But even then, it's clunky, full of typos, and most importantly, seems very detached from an actual understanding of white supremacy and queerness when those concepts are important and relevant to the history.

This was an unexpected library pick up for me and, having said that, I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. The visuals made some complicated historical concepts much easier to digest. I thought the introduction was unnecessary; the only thing I got from it was that this was a brief history of only the feminism that the authors were already aware of or already interested in. They admitted to not including a worldwide perspective by choice.

I feel a need of more history before 19th century. I do understand that the massive start was with a first wave. But what comes before that is a very-very-veeeery brief history marked in the book.
I like that reader can use the names (lots of them) and google them finding more information. Though, if you do not google, if it is your first book on feminism, if you have no idea what it is, you lack of history knowledge, this book won’t clarify a lot for you.
I also can’t say it would be of a big use to teenagers. As a graphic novel it probably could be of interest to them, but the narrative jumps a lot, sometimes it is inconsistent, and the young audience would be lost.
I like the idea, but not sure that I like the way it was implemented.

Everybody needs to read this, this is such a great basic info I would put that in all schools

“I write this as a plea to all women, especially the women of my generation: Let this dismissal of a woman’s experience move you to anger. Turn that outrage into political power. Do not vote for them unless they work for us. Do not have sex with them, do not break bread with them, do not nurture them if they don’t prioritize our freedom to control our bodies and our lives. I am not a postfeminism feminist. I am the Third Wave.”
