Editor's Review:
I was thinking back, the other day, to how excited I was when Dawn emailed, way back when, wishing to submit work to Beaten Track. I just love her writing so much. A lot of British authors feel pressured to write stories in a more generic, international form of English, but not Dawn Sister. In fact, all of the UK authors' contributions to this anthology are distinctly British, and it's not about accents or dialect. It's in the settings and the ways the characters deal with them. Like, for instance, the beginning of A Springful of Winters...
Yes, we do all talk about the weather, all the time. We grumble when it's doing what it's supposed to, grumble when it isn't. Kit might be neuro-diverse, but he's still British through and through.
This is also a gorgeous romance with hilarious mishaps along the way and has one of my favourite endings of all time.

"Snow? On the first day of spring. It goes against all the rules of nature, Yenta." I huff as I look out the window of the bookshop where I work.

Sweet and adorable, this warmed my heart and made me happy.

The blurb perfectly describes this story…
Kit is different which makes it extremely difficult for him to interpret social cues, and his literal mind cannot infer much as he needs straightforwardness like we all need air. Sadly, there’s few people out there that are willing or wanting to try with Kit. He’s mostly fine with his solitary life as he helps his bestie run a bookstore, for routine and no surprises are what’s best for his emotional well being.
One day however, his lovely beagle gets into a bit of awful good trouble and of course, this causes all sorts of subsequent hijinks and pratfalls that only seem to befall Kit without him trying. He’s absolutely mortified and wants to rectify things with the beautiful stranger that’s been coincidently subjected to embarrassing situation after situation, but Kit just knows his chances are bungled to hell with nary a bit of hope as things kinda spiral beyond his control.
Good thing Stephan is just as charmed and isn’t daunted by Kit’s eccentricities. He finds them intriguing, simply adding to his want to find out more about Kit’s quirky and unique allure. What ensues is a lovely progression of fumbling along as these two try to get to know each other despite what seems like fate playing one too many a practical joke.
Overall, sweet and funny, this was a feel good win!!

My first book from Dawn Winters and I'm definitely interested in more from her.
The book follows Kit, a socially awkward twenty four year old working his way through life with the help of contingency plans, Bessie his support dog and Yenta his boss/landlady/friend.
His first meeting with the handsome man at the hotel involves Bess covered in fox muck ruining a wedding, the second a collision between bike and car, and then a cascade of books at the library. Things don't look good from Kit's perspective despite how lovely he thinks the man is. However, maybe all is not what it seems and the attraction could possibly go both ways.
This story is a wonderful insight into someone with Autism and the ways in which they manage to get through daily life. Kit is totally endearing with his contingency plans for every possible interaction and outcome throughout the day. Whilst we are purely reading from Kit's POV, it's easy to read what those who mean something to him think of him. Dawn has written their feelings very well from the way that they react and interact with Kit.
The writing does seem a bit erratic in places but I love it as it flows with the way that Kit's mind works. Some of the swear words used are clearly English and I love how the area that the book is set in is described. It's very easy for me to imagine, living in a small town in England myself.
I adore Bess, and Yenta. Those two are essential to Kit's survival and he clearly loves them just as much as they love him. Their connection shines through and it's great to read how they both look to accept someone new in Kit's life. The same may not possibly be said for everyone in the book.
Dawn's writing is wonderful and draws you straight in from the beginning, wanting to experience life through Kit's eyes. There are many comedic moments that are fully laugh out loud but there are also a couple on the flip side, pulling at your heartstrings and just wanting to give the man a hug, or at least supporting him with his contingency plan for what has just occurred.
This story has brought to light an illness that is actually more common than you think and it's so lovely reading their story of getting a HEA. I cannot recommend it enough!
I received this and ARC of this book from the publisher and am happily giving a review

Just as I was starting to love it, it ended. Lovely characters and a lovely story, but the abrupt ending and heavily favoring dialogue over description ( good characters but not a lot of background for the characters or context, because most of it is dialogue) made it impossible for me to fully appreciate it.
Kudos to the author for writing a book with a wonderful message, though.

Very lighthearted, had little to no angst. I loved the writing and adored the characters from start to finish.
If you’re looking for a incredibly wholesome and quick read that doesn’t have much to any background drama, and focuses solely on their relationship… then this is definitely for you!

I'm posting this review so I can link back to the Seasons of Love Anthology, which is why I wrote this story in the first place.
I love writing for an anthology because it's like having a small group of friends in an exclusive club. That's what A Springful of Winters is part of. There are ten awesome stories in Seasons of Love, of which Springful is only one.
Here are the links to the anthology as a whole, and the other individual stories:
