This is one of Lurlene McDaniel's more upbeat books. I enjoyed getting to know the Pink Angels.

I first read this series in 2005-ish. I really loved it and it was the first books that ever made me cry. I bought them in 2014 at a used book store and have held on to them since. But I figured it was time to reread them, if I was willing to let them live in prime bookcase real estate.

This book definitely portrayed teenagers with the mentality of 25 year olds. Uber mature in some ways, while completely clueless in others. Which was probably endearing as a teenager to read. I’m not in love just yet, like I was back then. But I still have 2 more books to go and if I remember right the next two are better.

Shame based views on things make me sad with the world. Why did we think this worked? That a girl could loose her virginity and be called “used” and “trash” is so heartbreaking. This is all covered in the first part of this book. Fortunately the second half picks up with a wonderful selfless story line.

I definitely can’t remember ever reading this book before. So I wonder if I only read the third one way back when? Not sure. But I know for sure I read the third book.

Rereading this book took much longer than expected, mainly because I wanted to avoid the pain that I knew was coming for the characters. They handled the challenges well, and a tad unrealistically. But it was good to read again and get that feel of books I read as a preteen.

Alright so I have this book a 2/5 and giving it 2 stars was me being very generous. The amount of slut shaming, purity culture bullshit, and the brush over of cheating infuriated me. This book did not age well and I remember why I hated this book the most out of the series. Hunter did not deserve Raina. He looked at her differently all because she had sex like boo hoo it happens get over it. And everyone guilt tripped Kathleen into getting back with Carson when he allowed his girlfriend best friend to kiss him and treat Kathleen poorly. Like what?! How is she to blame for ending the relationship. I can not with this book. Will never read it again.
