Esther Perel is a genius when it comes to understanding long-term relationships and the problems couples within them face with regard to  sustaining intimacy, curiosity, and eroticism and staying together. Essential reading.

Esther Perel makes a lot of sweeping statements in "Mating in Captivity." They are astute and often lead to deep personal reflection, but it's not always clear what the research is behind her claims. A great read for anyone. At any stage in their life. Esther defines the erotic beyond sex itself or sexuality – eroticism is about facing the world with openness and wonder and curiosity. At a time of great uncertainty, this book has been a gift. A reminder of beauty and wonder.

Well, the book club was a total disaster but the book was great - albeit repetitive from chapter to chapter. Would reference again as a reflection on how to maintain romantic and sexual desire within a long term relationship where comfort and intimacy often, unintentionally, erode the former. Well written, easy and fun to read, recommended for anyone in, entering, considering, interested in, or curious about long term relationships.

Great read! Lots of different examples of struggles and breakthroughs. The broadest takeaway to me is that we’re still distinct and somewhat distant from our partners, and finding/relishing the distance can help fuel the founding intimacy between.

It was an okay audiobook. It gave some good ideas to keep the spice alive within different scenarios. I like how she had several couples situations as a guide used pieces of their sessions in the book. It also made me see how people differ in thoughts and actions depending on what they may have experienced in their past as well as the differences between male and female. I would revisit if ever in the future I felt like there was something lacking in that department in my relationship.
