Poignant. Funny. Heartbreaking. Sweet. Beautiful.

3.5 stars! I liked it! I especially loved all the details of the behind the scenes of SNL that Sittenfeld gave us. I'm not a very big fan of romance books, but this was fun!

Where do I start?

The first third wasn’t bad, wasn’t my favorite but I kept reading. Once the emails and COVID talk started though… lost my attention. I did finish it for the sake of it being the book for book club, but I read the last 2/3 as quickly as I could.

Truly the best part was Noah telling Sally how insecure she was because she truly did complain the entire book. It really could have been a good romance but the writing just seemed so repetitive. I get that the scene needed to be set with “TNO” and Sally and Noah’s relationship while he was the host, but you must be living under a rock if you don’t know how that show (SNL) operates. Sally’s… what’s the word, obsession?… with the Danny Horst Rule was annoying after a bit. Like sure, as an average woman living in America, hitting it off with a celebrity probably would be intimidating but my god… get to the point already.

Might be one I leave in a neighborhood free library because I don’t see myself ever picking it up again.

It was ok, I was quite bored reading/listening to this predictable book. But it was available while I was waiting for my third book in NK Jemisons series from the library.

Rounded up from three and a half stars. I wasn’t fond of the beginning, but it got better and better!

I did like that this was a romance that did not rely on the tropes that normally make me a little nutty (withholding information about important things solely to create drama/advance the plot, miscommunication). The drama and tension were more tied to Sally's personality.

I like experimental structures but don't love that the chapters were so wildly different from each other. I understand why Chapter 2 was all emails but they were so long and exchanged over such a short period of time...

SpoilerWhat was it that Noah wanted to tell Sally that wasn't anything bad? Unless I missed something, that never was addressed...

DNF. Too much fake SNL and I am tired of reliving the pandemic through books! And the email chapters are such a lame way to do it.

This book started out slowly, but it got better. It would've gotten four stars if the author had not decided to sprinkle in her religious, sexual, and political biases. So you're probably asking how a book can be written without such stuff, especially in this day and age. Well, if Nora Roberts can do it, anybody can!
