2.5 ⭐️If I had to describe this book in one word it would be ‘okay’ - there wasn’t really anything particularly special about it. It was enjoyable enough and I did like the setting and the atmosphere, with the loch and the isolated nature of loch house creating a creepy vibe. The problem was it was just very predictable, by the time I was halfway through I had guessed what had happened and I was pretty much right. I also felt the tiny bit of action at the end was very rushed and the ending itself was also quite simplistic.

I do enjoy reading a book set in Scotland, and parts of this were enjoyable. However, the main plot twist was too predictable and I didn’t find myself reaching for the book.

I love a good mystery and this story was definitely a good one.

The story jumps from one perspective to another, and it’s only as you go through the book that you start to get an idea of where these two parts start to come together.

So well written, drew me in instantly, read this in one sitting.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.

Brilliantly written suspenseful read.

I’m enamored with sparse cabins set on Scottish lochs as a micro-genre, and then add classic Scottish weather, a tiny village, and villagers who truly dislike outsiders? A total win for me.

I have to say, the biggest twist was one I saw coming from the book’s early moments. But the final twist? So satisfying and didn’t see that one coming.

I really liked the character development, the inclusion of diverse main characters, and seeing how the girls’ relationship has changed over time. I also enjoyed the second timeline, and seeing how those characters came into their own and evolved over time.

Overall, a twisty, suspenseful read. I was reading the middle third of the book at night and both needed to put it down but couldn’t. It definitely felt like my heart was about to beat out of my chest!

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Avon Books UK for a review copy!

If you have some time to kill on a rainy afternoon, like mysteries and dual timelines, this book is for you.
The Loch has a really interesting premise, but I feel it failed to deliver. The plot itself was very predictable and two of the characters were downward annoying, with the prize going to Eleanor. I simply couldn’t connect with any of them.
Bonus points for being set in Scotland with its lochs and eerie atmosphere.

I give this book 3 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. This is an honest review, and all opinions are entirely mine.
