To sum this book up in a few words: beautifully painful, antagonizing, and captivating. This is one those 'once in a lifetime books' you'll want to read once. It'll stick with you forever, and it's changed my perspective about others. I wish this book came with a coupon for kleenex. You'll need it if you choose to read this book.
For anyone who may be struggling with something mentally, suffered from physical abuse, trauma, addiction, or gets triggered very easily by self harm, or dehumanizing acts I strongly suggest looking up the list of triggers surrounding this book!
This book is over 700 pages long, and the density of the physical copy was overwhelming enough. I had to take multiple long breaks in between certain parts of the book before I could pick it back up again.
A Little Life is definitely one of those reads that will forever stick with me and I don’t regret reading it.

I am so happy that I read this book, but I’m happier it’s over! The way mental health is explained through Jude’s eye is truly heartbreaking. It really makes you feel like you are right there along with him though the struggle just to stay another day. I fell so much for every character in this book. To see how awful Jude’s mental heath can be for the people around him was just as sad as watching Jude go through it. I wanted to take each character aside and tell them I know they are doing their best and give them hug. I was prepared to cry but I wasn’t prepared to cry so many different times for very different reasons. The amount of times I had to put the book down to compose myself before starting again was a record for me. Just when I didn’t think it could get worse it did, but I am glad I was along for the journey. The love that is shared between the characters is so beautiful and it breaks my heart to see that sometimes nothing is enough.

This story has more triggers than I can count. It is difficult subject matter and yet a fairly easy read; it rolls forward smoothly in all its tragic detail. Excellent writing, engrossing story, rich well defined characters.

I really wanted to try to get through this book, I knew it wouldn’t be easy. If you’re an average reader, it’s not a book you can pick up from the library and plow through. Probably not a great read for those who struggle with the mundane. This book ended up being a DNF. The authors writing-style is great, but the content is dry. There was nothing in the first two chapters that hooked me. Which is dissatisfying since the authors descriptive writing can be so beautiful. On Reddit I learned that the story doesn’t “pick up” until about page 240 and even then it didn’t sound promising.
