This book was so much fun! I honestly wasn’t sure if I would like it. I kept seeing people reading this series in my feed and finally gave in. I’ve never read a scifi alien romance before (except for the YA series Lux by Jennifer L. Armentrout MANY years ago) and I wasn’t sure if I’d like it. But I loved this!

First, both Georgie and Vektal are awesome characters.

Georgie is charming, witty, brave, and smart. She is so funny. I like how she doesn’t take herself too seriously. Her voice is fun and charming. Although the book isn’t a comedy per se, her reactions and commentary on things made me lol so many times.

And Vektal is such a sweet possessive barbarian! He is possessive but not like overbearing. I don’t mind overbearing guys in books (and I actually enjoy them too), but Vektal’s type of reserved possessiveness was refreshing too. He’s such an utter sweetheart and I just melted for him. He respects Georgie and gives her space to make her own choices and it was just so heartwarming to watch him with her. He’s so caring and you can’t help but love him.

Together they are just adorable. Despite obvious physical differences and a huge language barrier (which is later resolved), they form an instant attraction to one another that was super sweet and just plain fun.

Before the language barrier was solved, they were so cute when they were trying to understand each other. I like how the author has Georgie’s speech sort of garbled when we are inside of Vektal’s POV but not so much that we can’t make out what she’s saying. Very clever!

Overall this was such a refreshing and fun first in series book! Great writing style, interesting story, and awesome characters. I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of the series. So glad I decided to try it out!

I feel like I need a separate rating system for books that are RIDICULOUS, but also very fun. This was not a literary masterpiece, but I will immediately be devouring the next 5 books.
