Had a lot of interesting content, but I can't say it was entirely engrossing. Not super applicable to the class I read it for or my actual life/job (though that is no fault of the book!). It still taught me a lot. Very beautifully designed, as well.

This is basically the Bible of typography. There are many more focused typography books that I enjoy more, but in terms of getting a wide and comprehensive understanding of the topic, this is always my first recommendation. It’s the go to introduction on understanding key terminology, the various qualities of type, and explanation on the anatomy, when and how to use type effectively. It’s a must have for any graphic designer.

If you're into typography, this is the bible equivalent in the graphic design world. Lots of good advice and terminology, though not necessarily how to create your own typography or reviewing specific fonts. It looks at the big picture - the layout and meaning of what a specific type of font will do to change the user experience.
