Not my fave of his books, there were too many POVs and some really irrelevant plotlines but it was okay!

This is an ambitious novel with multifaceted stories that touch on the uncomfortable truth that the oppressed suffer far more at the randomness of life than those who are lucky to have the power of wealth, good health and education to support them. It includes particularities on how the more fortunate can stomach on deciding what they can and can not do, if anything, in assisting the impoverished as well as the emotionally needy.

ā€œAll good things in life are fragile and easily lostā€

Khaled Hosseini is a gifted storyteller. In this around the world reading challenge, I've read all 3 of his books and have learned & loved things about Afghanistan and Pakistan and beyond. His words have the power to not just craft a beautiful story, but stir emotions as well. I will probably read everything this man writes.

And the Mountains Echoed had a different feel than his first two. The storyline jumped decades and continents. It followed a family, and those this family impactedā€¦from California to Paris to Greece and back to Afghanistan. It's a story of family, and the pain & suffering families can suffer. It's about betrayal & heartbreak. And it's about love. It does not lack power or emotion. That being said, it was probably my least favorite of his 3. And a least favorite by Khaled Hosseini is still in my top 15 for the year.

A beautiful book about the love between a brother and sister and by making one choice, the circumtances than span for more than 50 years.

To me, this is not a novel, but a series of stories with a tenuous link between characters. I donā€™t like this structure when itā€™s presented as a novel.Ā
