I picked this book up simply because I looooved 'the girls' by emma cline. But knew absolutely nothing about the plot so was pleasantly surprised by it being a short story collection. I can't say any of these stories have particularly stood out to me. I'm writing this review several days after finishing it and I don't think I could tell you a single plot of any of the stories, this doesn't mean that I didn't have a great time reading them though! I'd recommend this collection. I think my favorite story was Marion but i think that's because it had big The Girls vibes.

Thank you to Vintage & NetGalley for an advance e-copy of this title.
My god, do I love Emma Cline’s writing. I’m not sure I can even articulate why, but these short stories completely captivated me and left me wanting more. There’s a cast of interesting (and often supremely unlikeable) characters, found in a variety of situations that stretch from the mundane to the extraordinary. Each story is unravelled slowly and tantalisingly, which makes it hard to put the book down once you have started one! I’m not normally a fan of short stories but I loved these - although I do hope that Cline might develop one or two of the ideas into a novel.

none of these stories were AMAZING. most of them were just about wealthy dudes who did questionable things and were somewhere between human and pure evil. Emma clearly has a great grasp of writing humanity but none of these stories excited me in a memorable way as great short stories typically would.
