The book started out as if it were going to be case studies and scientific conclusions. Instead, I felt the author used the cases selectively and presented only information that presented her opinions. The more I read, the more slanted the content so that by the time I got to the last third of the book, I questioned the validity of all of her conclusions, especially in light of content she presented as fact that I know to be untrue.

This is a very heavy book with very heavy subject matter. However it is quite fascinating and your heart breaks for these kids.

really fascinating. the author weaves in the other contemporary social movements of the girls lives (growing up during world war two and the civil rights movement) and displays how the early research and treatment/stigma of mental disorders like schizophrenia were drenched in gender and racial bias. great read
