I read this in tandem with Tower of Dawn and Empire of Storms was kind of slow for me. I liked Tower of Dawn more so it was kind of like I was trying to get through chapters fast to go back to TOD lol. BUT THE END. OMFG THE END SNATCHED ME BACK LMAO. If this one is slow for you too, just push through. I promise it’s worth it.

Favorite Characters:
Elide Lochan and Lorcan Salvaterre

Favorite Quotes:
“I see you. I see every part of you. And I am not afraid.”

Rounding up from 3.5 'cause Sarah is cool.
Def not my fave in the series- its sole purpose was to set up the final book in the series for sure and it totally felt that way. There were just so many added plot kinks to keep it going. And I miss Chaol! (His name was first mentioned 70 pages in and he doesn't appear once in the book. Yeah)
BUT Sarah def knows how to keep my attention and her sexy time scenes were a sexy time so way to be Sarah.
The side characters' sub plots were my fave, even if I'm a little salty that everyone is pairing off with one another (I just really wanted Lysandra to be gay but WHATEVS).
All in all, I found it to be a decent 5th novel ha

I would describe the series up to this point as fantasy with romance sub-plots. This book switches into full out romanticy, with the romance taking center stage at many points. Very fun, but could also be a little jarring if you are more interested in the fantasy and plot aspects of this series.

This book continues the theme of the last book where Aelin pulls strings off page, only for it then to be revealed at the perfect time, which is both fun and frustrating.

Overall, the character development in this book was great and it was a very fun read with major plot twists (until the last 100 pages - still amazing, but fun turned into devastating very quickly).
