I already knew this was a remarkable story, but it was so wonderful to find it so extremely well written.

This was shockingly boring to me. I know that’s not great to say about such a harrowing true story, but I just did not enjoy reading it at all. And it wasn’t because of the cannibalism. I appreciated the survivors grit and how dedicated they were to making it out alive. However, I felt like the book was incredibly repetitive. I kept thinking I had accidentally flipped back a few pages and was re-reading the same passage on fighting over cigarettes. The actual people definitely are inspiring and fascinating. But what I expected to be a fast past survival story ended up feeling like a real slog.
