an interesting reimagining of the first-wave feminist sci-fi "women's utopia" subgenre. the plot is a little threadbare for me but it's mostly a story focused on worldbuilding/character so i get it

A little confused in the messaging sometimes. I feel like Johnathan latched onto the rules of the Vaik really quickly and we didn't get to see him struggle with his misogyny

Deeply unsettling and ethically challenging book. Reaching for the greatness of LeGuin or Nabokov and coming up instead with something closer to an intense conversation with a weird friend late at night after too many drinks. Glad to have read but uncertain how to feel - even harder to know if that uncertainty was the author’s objective or a sign of them simply having lost the plot a bit.
