This is a magical tale of a woman finding herself (finally!) at age 60, the French seaside, gorgeous food and setting, and most importantly, the discovery of the importance of a life well-lived. If you like quiet and description-rich stories with interwoven magic, this one is for you.

I received a digital ARC of this title for review - all opinions are my own.

So many tears! I read her later book; The Little Paris Bookshop first, and loved it, and they're similar enough in tone to feel familiar with out being repetitive or derivative. Nina George warms my heart!

Goddess of the Sea

Marianne was a 60 year old wife of a very tightly wound German who rarely lifted his head from the newspapers to acknowledge her presence. For him everything was good in their marriage, but for Marianne, she was a shell, empty and at the end of her life. Would her next step take her to where she always should have been or destroy everything she had? Would you be as brave.?

Just started this book yesterday. I loved The Little Paris Bookshop, and so far have not been disappointed with this one. Looking forward to reading the the rest.

I'm not going to lie to you, when I started reading this book and the opening pages were about Marianne the main character leaping into the Seine in an attempt to end her life and get away from her husband of 35 years I thought I wasn't going to enjoy reading it.

How wrong was I? After leaving the hospital Marianne finds her way to the Breton town of Kerduc which she had seen painted on a coaster in the hospital. She ends up with a job and a place to stay in the restaurant of Ar Mor and soon begins to find herself.
SpoilerHer husband finds her and she is faced with the decision whether to return to her old life in Germany or remain in Kerduc with her new friends and life there.

I really enjoyed reading about Marianne and watching her new character to develop. I also enjoyed reading about the lives of the other residents in Kerduc. This was a lovely easy read.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley and Abacus.

So sweet. Some parts were sad and heartbreaking. But the whole thing was a beautiful story of finding yourself and healing, regardless of age.
