A bad sci-fi gossip girl reboot. Did I hate it? Yes. Am I going to read the entire trilogy even though I’m way too old for this shit? Probably also yes.

I don't understand why everything has to be a series. This does not have an ending.

4.25

I really enjoyed reading this book and found myself not wanting to put it down between chapters regularly.

I decided I couldn't rate it higher than I have however for a couple reasons:

Firstly I couldn’t get onboard with the Atlas/Avery relationship. Too weird given she was 5 when he became her brother - very young - which made the whole thing a bit gross and not something I could root for. Secondly the ending was too open-ended for this to be entirely stand alone. The final chapter eluded to a sequel, by pointing out open questions a little too obviously, however this is the sort of book I think could have benefited from being stand alone personally.

Having said all that thought, I still gave it 4.25 as I really did enjoy reading it, I just had a couple qualms.

Man, I love a truly fast-paced captivating book. Katharine McGee is the queen of the multi-POV. Rich, unsupervised teens set in a futuristic NYC, but somehow she makes these disasters of characters deeply empathetic.

Also, I cannot believe this is her debut novel! Clearly working as an editor first taught her how to write a tightly paced page-turner with characters that each feel unique and fully-realized.

I wanted to enjoy this book slightly more than I did. It drew me in and was un-put-down-able, but more in the way a sketchy reality TV show is. The characters were vibrant and life-like, and while there were definitely some I rooted for, there were some that I was... less enamoured with, which is still strong characterization. I was hoping to find it a little less romance-y, but really, no major compalints. I think that it was simply not quite to my personal tastes.
