I went into this completely blind, other than maybe the first 10 minutes of a movie I fell asleep during. However, I truly came to enjoy it. It is genuinely funny, with several moments that made me laugh out loud. It’s quite chaotic in plot and characterization, but there is a real heartiness underlying it all. Overall a pretty fun read and I’m willing to read the rest of the series.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy manages to entertain even if doesnt tell you beyond a few pages of the actual Hitchhiker's guide. This sure feels like the very few first chapters of a grand adventure that is about to come!

The beginning of the five book omnibus - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy tells you many things other than what is in the actual guide. It is funny and manages to give you an occasional laugh and doesn't get you bored. When it actually came out, I am sure this must have felt very fresh, but post Doctor Who era, it doesn't feel so amazing to me. I felt the plot is actually quite thin and the writing style is more aimed at younger audiences. But the witty story-telling style compensates for it. By the end of this book, it leaves the reader with more questions and the only choice here, is to read the next one to hopefully get some answers.

It is funny. I suspect I would have enjoyed it more, if I had read it in my teens.

Unbelievably good. These books have always been on my 'to read list', despite not really knowing anything about them. I am not going to give a lengthy review because there are thousands of them out there, also I am going to put this same review on the first 4 books (haven't got the 5th yet) because I read them all in one sitting (well a weekend) and they merge into one tale for me.

I don't know how to describe how much I enjoyed these books, or how good I think they are. The only adequate words I can think of to describe them are, phenomenally unique. I had no idea what to expect, but any expectations that were there were blown away. They are absolute genius, and the way Douglas Adams uses the English language is unparalleled in its brilliance. All the characters are fantastic and relatable in some way. People often remark on the sort of lack of a distinguishable plot, but that is the point. Just enjoy the ride. Incredible funny, witty, and again, just absolute genius. Cannot recommend them enough.

Also, there appears to be differing views on whether you should read them all in one go, or with a break in between. I read the original 4 in one hit, and do not regret it. I think some of the subtle links would be missed otherwise. But regardless, however you do it, just read them.

In case it isn't clear, I enjoyed these books. They provided me with a brilliant weekend and I have no doubt that I will read them again at some point. Now, go read them, and enjoy!
