Lots of shock value gore in this book....and lots of dissatisfying inconsistencies too. Interesting concept, but overdone...
I know this book was written in 2003, so I'm not expecting tons of correct language, but the killer being an intersex person felt like such a bizzare tacked on thing. It's like it was yet another twist added for chock value because the author couldn't come up with another way to spin it. How come for the whole book whenever the POV was on the killer, they were described entirely as male, but then Lucy passed as female so well...that doesn't quite make sense, and this is coming from a trans person. I enjoyed the brief scene where we were left wondering whether the evil goddess was actually going to appear. Otherwise, it was very uncomfortable how everyone kept hitting on Katie while she lost her husband and almost died like 4 times.
