This is the kind of book that makes me wish I could give half stars. Overall, I give it 3.5 stars because I enjoyed spending time with these characters and the setting truly came alive for me. It's been a long time since I had the travel bug, but this book had me Googling Corsica, Paris, and London. I was really drawn in by the descriptions of WWII and couldn't stop making connections to what we are living through now with the war in Ukraine. I think the author set out to tell a story about lost and found mothers and daughters and I think she did that.

Maybe it's because I listened on audio, but I got lost in the all the time jumping and sometimes I struggled to tell which POV I was in. Had I read the book on the page I would have been able to flip back to the chapter headings and reorient myself.

I was a little turned off by the treatment of adoption. I can't put my finger on it, but there seemed to be a lot of shaming of choices.

I've been wanting to read Lucy Foley ever since I heard her on the What Page are you on Podcast and thought she sounded lovely. This is her first novel so I'm excited to see how she has developed as an author.

Enjoyable read with a little bit of a slow start. At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy this book, however as soon as I got to know the characters better I was hooked. I wanted to know the history, their experiences, and see how their stories concluded. I do with it would have gone a little bit more in-depth with the resolution of the book, but leaving some of it to my imagination isn’t a bad thing.
