She’s a rancher, he’s a fed. He left her ten years ago and she’s been carrying a torch for him this whole time. He returns to small town for work and wants her back, she takes him back. Somewhere in the background there is a story about lost cattle…

CN for attempted sexual assault.

ACAB, but especially ICE.

Dual POV, med spice, 18+

Eh. There wasn't really anything to write home about in this book. The story was mostly predictable (
Spoilerconstant assholes who hit women being the problem, undercover agent that everyone suspects at one time, blah blah blah
); there were several ways it could have gone in my mind, but it still wasn't anything ultimately surprising. The characters were just characters. And honestly? Too much sex, mostly boring. I think I've been reading too much romance, it takes a lot for me to be surprised or entertained at this point (or maybe I'm just spoiled with a specific other federal agent-based series). However, I have to say it was the overall presentation that just didn't do it for me. I didn't really like either of the main characters, there was a lot of initial analyzing of the situations from both Sky and Zack's perspectives (no gradual unfurling revelations there), and the mixing of character quotes in the same paragraphs (this is more of an editing thing, I think) really bugged me the entire time I was reading the book. But, I do have one positive thing to say regarding one piece of unpredictability:
SpoilerI haven't seen cattle rustling in a story to such an extent and certainly not with hamburger being part of the process. I did think that was a very interesting aspect and it was about the only thing that kept me reading
Spoiler. Think I'll find a book that deals more with that element at a later date; really was interesting, particularly since I live in Arizona. But, ultimately this was just a kinda "eh" story for me.

I don't read a lot of erotica but this one seemed to have plot as well as sex.

And yes, the chocolate cheesecake scene is definitely memorable.
