Yes, it took me a while to finish this one too. (1) Because I just wanted to do everything else but read. (2) the book, as good as it was, seemed to drag on. A trend I am noticing with this series so far. I do intend to carry on to at least City of Fallen Angels and just take each book as it comes. I am wanting to finish this series because (1) I want to know what happened (2) I want to attempt to read the spin off series of books and hope I like them more. I guess I'll see what happens. :-)

Tbh there are too many events that happen too early in this novel for it to be worthwile. It's a same as I used to really like this series.

Just glad to be done with the series. It payed off, because at 8:30 am on the first day of school I was already discussing the drama of Clary and Jace (think Bella and Edward) with my 7th grade girls. :)

The first thing I read from Cassandra Clare was Chain of Gold. Followed immediately by Chain of Iron. I love the Shadowhunter world. Plus the idea of Edwardian English women dressing in corsets and gowns plus all of their weapons gives history a fun little spin, out there fighting with the men and what not. I decided to start from the beginning of the Shadowhunter world, even though in time, the Chain books (The Last Hours series) happen before the City (The Mortal Instruments Series) books. I want to love MI, but they are just going downhill. I found myself not caring at all about the plot and characters. It almost felt like someone was reading to me from a history book. I’m going to keep going because there are so many characters and things I love about this. Hopefully it can pick back up.

THIS IS THE END OF THE SERIES.
THE OTHER THREE BOOKS DO NOT EXIST.
Sigh, alas I am not correct. The series sadly does continue after this even though it should have ended after this book. Greedy, Clare? I understand that the next three books tie in The Infernal Devices and starts up The Dark Artifices; but really, it could have all been one book.
I'll vent about them when I get to them.
So this one was great. Her writing is still very young for me, but her story telling is still phenomenal. Clary is still as annoying as she was in the last two. I can't stand her. She is whinny and selfish and expects everyone to see why her way is the only option. I loved the fact that the other characters started to see that about her too. Isabelle was taking none of her crap anymore. She even said that when this was all over she hopes Clary never makes an appearance in her or her family's (that includes Jace) life again. I was cheering so hard for her.
Every single other character in this series has a backbone. Alec was the smart, quiet one that found himself in the story. Jace, even though he is obsessed with Clary, is a mega hero. Isabelle was sassy and direct and not the shy girl of the series. Magnus is... Magnus. Sebastian was the villain we all hate to love and love to hate.
What's different between him and Valentine is that Sebastian literally was evil. He wasn't thinking what he was doing was for the greater good. He literally just wanted to kill everyone for selfish desires.
Anyway, the book was overall a good read. I love diving into this world. I'm kind of just getting ready for her new release though, let's be honest.

5 Stars for the series. Clare really created a world. Very lovely. Better than Twilight, truthfully. I hope this makes the big screen, because it is a lovely adventure fantasy romance love story.
