Nothing ever felt heavy handed and it was nice to see Patrick slowly understand how to interact with Maisie and Grant in a way that guided them, but was never overbearing towards them, even though he has little to no experience with children.
Graphic: Grief
Minor: Medical trauma and Car accident
The main conflict of the novel is the characters coping the loss of their loved ones with each other.amandalorianxo's review against another edition

I was given a free copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
Um, so this book is adorable!!!
Following the death of their mother, Maisie and Grant are sent to Palm Springs to spend the summer with GUP (gay uncle Patrick) also known as the guncle. What ensues is about 300 pages of the cutest family bonding and good-natured debauchery imaginable. I LOVED how naturally this story broaches the topic of grief in all it's various forms. Paired with the difficulties of lifelong self discovery and the intricacy of being perceived as "different" in a world that is not always the kindest about that, this book is made of magic.
My only regret is that I didn't read this book next to a pool with a margarita in my hand. #januaryproblems
