Gave up on this, context given to quotes generally have a lack of evidence backing up their uses. Also, weirdly, Ryan Holiday very rarely refers to female figures in any of his works. Overall, I just didn't find it very useful to my life

I thought this was the laziest book I have ever read. I liked the idea of a piece of stoicism to start everyday with an author’s added wisdom. However, this was not that. He basically just rewords the quotes into a longer and more modern format. Nothing new to add, not inspiring, it almost gives the impression it’s written by ai. This could just be a problem of my own though.

I bought this in 2020 in the latter half of the year. I did start reading passages then however, I didn’t read them daily. I decided to attempt to read each daily passage for the year 2021. I did not miss a day. I found that some daily passages I resonated with and happened to have a clear link to something that day. Other times it was just the thing I needed for a calming moment to read the passage and others times a passage just went over my head. Although I may not be continuing to read each daily passage again into the new year, it won’t be the last time I read the book. I think moving forward I will pick the book up and go to the date of the time I feel I need to read a passage and maybe in the future, I might do the full year again. This book has made me want to read further into the different philosophers and stoicism. A book that is definitely staying on my shelves.

This is a lovely little book. I recommend doing it daily, as it is meant to be thought provoking and think about the daily passages. Holiday does a great job making Stoicism approachable to the average person here. If you can stomach this and get anything of value out of it, I recommend his other works on Stoicism.
