Spoiler um so basically the book was pretty good. The twist at the ends with the principal being the mom of Misha was pretty cool. I liked the ending, it was satisfying with Misha being a rockstar and them being not only content, but happy. I like how they kept their romance alive along the years. We are so proud of Misha and Ryen (for her character development). Loved them as characters and loved their story.

This book feels like something straight from Wattpad, written by some 15 year old girl who's never experienced anything vaguely romantic in her life. Not a single one of the characters is likeable (except for Manny, who honestly deserves so much better). Misha serves to remind me of why I am terrified of men. His theme song might as well be Norman fucking Rockwell by Lana Del Rey. And oh my god, I can not read another 'romance' where the characters just hate-fuck a couple times and decide they're in love without sharing even a single positive moment with each other. I can't do it. I'm going insane.

It's a shame, because I wanted to like this book. I'd heard mixed things, but from what I'd heard about the plot it sounded like something I would enjoy, or at least be interested in. I was not interested. I was either annoyed or outright bored for at least 75% of this book, and that's being generous.

I do want to give the dark romance genre another shot though, so if anyone has any recommendations that are not as god awful as this book, send them my way.

Toxic as fuck, mysogonistic as fuck, Creepy as fuck. Protagonistin ist wahnsinnig unsympatisch. Mit 14-16 hätte mir das Buch warscheinlich sehr getaugt.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It really dug into the nitty-gritty aspects of high school, the need to fit in and the horrid expectations we set on each other and on ourselves. I liked that Ryen wasn’t some loveable, innocent female character that most books will proceed with as most people aren’t angels we perceive them to be. I also approved of the way Misha was written, his personality truly shown through the book words making it easy to picture the person he is. The same with Ryen and being able to see her in both her ‘façade’ and the true person she is.

I’ll admit it’s a little slow at the start, and some things said are a little vulgar but it does pull you in.

The absolute revelation at the end that we find out absolutely stunned me.

This book made me emotions go from curiosity, happiness, sadness to angry in many ways.. I connected with the words written on the page and that’s what I truly love when it comes to reading. If I can’t connect to the words written, then what’s the purpose?

I really like the lesson this book teaches about how not to treat other people in the world. I think so often we don’t realize how much influence the popular kids in school have on kids, even at an early age. We forget what it’s like to be a teenager and feel embarrassed because we’re different, but this book reminded me of those feelings, which were a little hard to revisit. There are also some trigger warnings, particularly related to sexual violence. Finally, some people don’t like this book because the characters have sex and they’re teenagers but all the sex that is described is between 18 year old characters, which is technically between adults. Additionally, I don’t know that I’m terribly put off by sex between teenagers because I know that’s real-life. There were some things I thought were repetitive in the book and some inconsistencies in the plot line. Also, I really wondered why Misha always had a condom at the ready, no matter what he was doing. That was weird. But all in all, I enjoyed reading this book and will read more by this author.
