3.5 The last 60% of this book was amazing. But that first 40% dragged on and was so obnoxious. I don't want to hear repeating internal thoughts about two characters in love who wouldn't communicate with each other about their feelings and constantly thinking about how each other is attractive but they don't deserve each other. It was so frustrating and boring and nothing really happened besides them lusting and then hating themselves. The later part of the book was great. This world is really fun but there are a couple mentions of very specific Christian tropes which wouldn't make any sense in this world unless the world has another Jesus in it. Probably going to read the last one in this trilogy and I hope it doesn't have the same pitfalls of this one.

Another fun, dry witted fantasy. Carries the story forward
LGBTQ+ friendly but not focused

Ugh. I love this book so much. Still so great on a re-read. Istvhan is my favorite of the paladins. I love everything about this story. Would be a perfectly good standalone entry point to T.Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon's work. She is my comfort author these days for so many reasons. BEARS.

A nice second book but which I loved less than the previous one

As much as I loved the first book of this series, it was more difficult for me to get through this book ... The plot was pretty good (we finally have the resolution of the mysterious clay creatures !!) and I really liked Istvhan (whose interior monologues made me laugh a lot xD) but I had a lot of trouble liking Clara (who got me a little tired with her hesitations and her obsession with always doing everything alone ...) and that slowed me down a bit !

In short, a nice second book to read even if much less nice than the previous one ! But I must admit I'm curious to read the book with Galen <3
