It's pretty easy to tell that Crichton didn't write all of this but it did keep me entertained on a road trip to and from Madison this weekend.

Not one of his best, started off well and finished poorly and out of style. My guess is this had to do with the fact that that it was completed by another author after his death.

Oh. My. God. What a travesty. I would expect this kind of ridiculous drivel from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, NOT from the author chosen to complete the extraordinary Michael Crichton's final work. The only worthwhile part of this story is the first 30 pages or so. Not surprisingly, those are the only pages which appear to have been written by Crichton. The characters were caricatures, the plot ludicrous, the science preposterous! Crichton was able to make you really wonder if there was a way to bring dinosaurs back to life, but every other page of this "work" had me rolling my eyes. I can't remember the last time I was so bored by a supposed adventure novel. To the Crichton estate: Shame on you. It would have been better to have not brought this to light rather than have his name so tarnished.

Classic Crichton, for the most part. Made me cringe, put the book down out of fear and of course I got super attached to the characters. Except for the villains, whom I will loathe until my dying day...

Posto che i libri di Crichton si leggono sempre che è un piacere, questo l'ho trovato un gradino sotto agli altri. Troppo simile a Jurassic Park, manca un po' di originalità. Non male, ma neanche troppo bene. Comunque sempre molto scorrevole.

It was so terrible. 😂 The entire book was an exercise in mansplaining.

I can't help but wonder where Crichton would have gone with this story...

The plot line was pretty absurd, but it was entertaining.

I tagged this as a unique mechanic but that isn't quite true. There have been several books (and a few movies) that explored the miniaturized world and shrinking humans. However, this is the latest attempt and was finished by an author I follow, Preston.
Overall, the book follows the survival of a group of grad students as they battle their way through a Hawaiian jungle in an attempt to get back to the lab where they were shrunk and reverse the process. The detailed science and description of a jungle biome from this tiny perspective was the best and strongest part of the book for me. Unfortunately, the characters and plot were classic Crichton - overblown, two-dimensional, and over-the-top at times. It was evident that Preston was finishing someone else's efforts because Preston's characters, plot, and pretty much everything else are better than Crichton.
