These are the types of books that bring pure joy and make me want to celebrate alllll the little things.

I love cake and illustrations and recipes, but wasn't crazy about this little book. Too little? One of the illustrated stories I had already read in another Kalman book so that was disappointing. And out of all the recipes, I would have only been interested in making 2 of the cakes. Kind of a throwaway, but a really cute one.

So, I definitely thought this was a graphic novel when I picked it up and not a cookbook??? Oops! But it did some short little stories in there and some lovely art, so it was a sweet read, even though I had no idea it was gonna be 90% recipes, haha.

This would be a great gift for the baker in your life. It’s really pretty.

Good to read not so much for the recipes but for strong sense of nostalgia and recapturing moments illuminated with family, friends and of course cake. Poetry on a plate.

Kalman's charming illustrations and musings uplift otherwise pedestrian recipes.
