This was my favourite book as a kid so decided to revisit it. While it has aged (obviously) it’s a delightful little step back in time to a time of pure innocence.
I chose the audiobook and I really enjoyed Kate Winslets reading of it.

We loved this one! My daughter would ask for me to read it to her all the time and after each chapter she'd ask to read another! Such a fun, whimsical book. Very enjoyable!

I decided to read this book because I brought a poster with 100 books to read in your lifetime and the first book was on the poster. It was adorable and a refreshing change from the usual things I read. I was intrigued to see how they carry on with this series.

This book is still based on Joe, Bessie and Franny. They take their cousin Rick on an adventure he will never forget. To the magic Faraway Tree where he meets all their friends including Moon-Face, Silky the fairy and Saucepan Man. Together, they visit all the different lands at the top of the Faraway Tree including the Land of Spells, the crazy Land of Topsy-Turvy, and the land of Do-As-You-Please, where the children ride on a runaway train.

This series is still adorable and brave. Each of these characters all had a very distinctive personality and weaknesses and strength. I loved that the friends in the tree were seen more in this book like the Saucepan Man being friendly and wanting to help them even if he is deaf. I love that they include the children’s mum in this book and that Moon-Face and Silky was in their house. For some bizarre reason I thought they had to stay in the tree like bound by magic or something. Again, I am gutted I didn’t read this book as a child and I wished I had to see it from a child’s perspective and an adult perspective (trust me, my nephew will be getting these books to read as he gets older.) I love that Rick just ignored every single instruction and then it ended with him needing saving every single time.

Just like the last book, I didn’t have any dislikes with this book, I knew that it would obviously be a bit predictable and knowing that nothing was going to happen to our beloved characters and obviously the repeated information was for the children’s aspect.

Overall, I enjoyed it, and I will carry on with this series even as a 23-year-old.

5 stars.
The second book in a classic Enid Blyton series. I preferred this book to the first, as the friendships between the characters are already established and more of the plot was focused on the characters exploring unfamiliar lands. The lands explored were also more memorable-my favourite was The Land of Dreams.

Similar to the first, the characters remain the same throughout and there are a lot of coincidences in the plot
Spoiler(e.g. mother gets ill, the Land of Medicine arrives very shortly afterwards)
but I just keep in mind its a book for young readers and it shouldn't be analysed very seriously. The book's main aim is escapism, and it achieves just that.

I dislike that the children's parents are written so that they are as boring as possible and quite stupid.
SpoilerFor instance, the following text: "So that night old Watzisname slept on the sofa. He snored a lot, and Mother woke up once and wondered what in the wide world the noise was. But she thought it must be the cat, and soon went off to sleep again." It was humorous, but is anyone actually that stupid?

5 stars for nostalgia and positive childhood memories.
