Overall, I enjoy this book and this series so lich. It does not pret and the world is black and white. It sits and explores the messy gray area of morality and decisions. It explores how it seems every choice is a wrong choice. This book started off and continued with a lot of darkness. There should be trigger warnings for this book as there is some graphic descriptions of substance abuse, murder, war, and rape.

After finishing The Poppy Wars in 2 days, this book felt slower and harder to get through. It wasn’t as new or exciting and I struggled to find the same energy I had about the first in the series. Still, it was a good book and I’m looking forward to moving on to the final book in the trilogy.

Beautifully done, frustrating beyond belief, and another testament to the skill of R.F. Kuang. While there were some VERY slow portions, as a whole, this novel was something that showed the vulnerability of humans in pain. The feelings of betrayal, shock, anger, and triumph elicited by this book are incredible.

Ah lord…so much happens. Lots of death, lots of hard situations, backstabbing, mystical god stuff, and I can’t get enough of it no matter how dark and hard it is. R F Kuang is one of the most beautiful writers, rapidly becoming an auto buy author for me.

This was a lot less emotionally devastating than the first book, but I really enjoyed it. It felt very fast-paced, and the characters feel real. A great combination of history and fantasy.
