Intensely, intricately crafted language interwoven in a haunting plot that subsequently satiates. I felt as though I wanted more: More insight to the intense love that our main character feels for the plague doctor mostly. I also wanted more backstory up until the ending “prologue” chapter following the acknowledgements (which I thought should not have been so tucked into the back like that… but I truly adored the “hunt” for the missing piece of the story in the back like that…)

I listened to this one, and I'm not a native English speaker, so it was a bit hard to understand, and It sometimes took me out of the story. But the story is still good. I will read other books from this author but a digital copy.

This book was very dark, weird and gory. And hard to follow. But I still found it interesting, and it was a surprisingly endearing love story? I’m still thrown off by the fantasy elements of the story, things weren’t always explained properly, and it was just difficult to understand what was happening and why. I enjoyed it regardless, just wish it had an extra chapter to flesh out the romance and all of the folklore elements.

Typically I don’t like books that have highly complex vocab, but I didn’t mind it here. You get thrown into the story right away and you don’t really understand what’s going on, kind of like a dream. Those two aspects combined made for a fun and challenging reading experience.
