This was not my favorite Kristin Hannah book that I've read, but it was a solid "pretty okay". I really loved the story of the 3 friends far more than I enjoyed the added narrative of the mom. I really did not like or empathize with her character until the last 30 pages. The way she was set up in the first half of the book just did not bode well for me to relate or make her choices after tragedy make sense. The end was also wrapped up incredibly quickly for me.

I just read a Coleen Hoover book with the exact same plot
young girl wracked with guilt over an ACCIDENT goes to jail not knowing she’s pregnant, has the baby, gives it up, gets out and decides maybe it was a mistake.
It’s starting to feel like a trope. And why is it always a girl? Just…unimpressive.

I truly can’t decided if this is a 3 or 4 star read for me. I’m going to leave it at 3 bc I don’t think I’d recommend it when Hannah has other novels I love. I was entertaining by part one. It’s an easy read with many complicated relationships. Part two was really underwhelming and overly descriptive. It was straight forward and could have ended 80 pages shorter. Overall I enjoyed it bc I loved the kids.
