What a finale! I really enjoyed this wrap up. There was so much ground to cover, and I liked the way it ebbed and flowed with action. My only thing is that I wished some of our troubled couples had to work a little harder to resolve their issues.
For them to just come close to death and then be forgiven felt a little too easy. I at least wish they'd spoken a bit more about their issues afterwards so it would've felt fully resolved.
And then I found some of the battle scenes repetitive.
How many times can a group of people almost die and then just barely not!?
But I really appreciated the themes and plotlines all coming to fruition here. Just reading this book makes you realize how much work it must've been to plot it, let alone write it! I know these characters and this story will stay with me for a long time.

A very good finale, although the start was let down by following on from the previous book’s cruelly horrific cliffhanger. Nevertheless, it picked up very quickly and gave all the great characters fitting stories to use and deepen them.

A very emotional fast moving final installment.

Some of the build up for the plot fell a little flat
Wryd gate and the lock?

What an emotional and fitting end to an epic fantasy series. TOG was my first high fantasy series so I didn’t know much of what to expect but I am so glad I undertook this adventure. I became so attached to Aelin and her band of heroes throughout the eight books. Though this final installment is almost 1,000 pages, they seemed to fly by as we jumped from battle to battle, from one part of the kingdom to another in massive clashes of good versus evil. At every moment I was surprised and intrigued. This book really beautifully brings back plots and characters that Maas expertly introduces books earlier - I was so impressed when something came up that I remembered from an earlier piece of the story and think that it’s the hallmark of a great writer to be able to make these sorts of callbacks. This book had some truly heartbreaking moments that were befitting of the finale of such an intense series but each one felt meaningful and instrumental to the storyline. I definitely found myself tearing up quite a bit at times and thought the overall arc of this novel was beautifully done.

I can’t believe this series is over. This series is a roller coaster. I do think this could have been smaller. Like not almost 900 pages. I did not give it a full 5 because
I really did not like Yrene. she just bothered me and for her to be the one that kills Erawon. 🙄 I’m so annoyed. I truly thought that the book was going to end during the war and it doesn’t which surprised me. I thought this was one of the best ways I’ve seen a series wrap up. Like everything was put into place. Now, the key. I had NO IDEA what was going on. I was so confused. I fucking missed when she passed by Veralis but I’m glad that my friend told me about it. I feel like that moment was so hyped and everything counted on the lock but the execution of that entire scene was poor.
I love these characters so much. Through this entire series you go THROUGH IT with Aelin and to see how she ended up… it was beautiful. It really was✨
