This was a super soft vibe-y book. It felt like how a bedtime story sounds, which was a very cool experience for me.
It started off giving me Ghibli vibes very similar to Spirited Away, then it really steeped me in the mythological wonder of the setting.

Very good story, even if the middle was a tad too slow for my liking.

I really liked the overall softness of The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea (I choose to believe the title references falling in love beneath the sea :blobaw:). Even the tense scenes didn't really feel "tense" because of the gentle prose. But it didn't feel the same as when I don't fear for the characters. Like... it wasn't that I knew the characters were going to always be okay, but more like I was just able to get lost in the flow of the writing, just wrapped up with that soft barrier between me and tension. Which was very interesting to me.

I really enjoyed the prose. It felt like listening to a bedtime story, hanging on to every word while still feeling safe.

I wish Shin & Mina had more scenes together, more time for us to see them falling in love and for soft-boi Shin to shine through.

And I really wish the nature of the gods and spirits were discussed a bit more. Like, wtf happened to the goddess of mothers & children at the end? Did she cease to exist? Is she the goddess of something else now? Or just a spirit? Or did the goddess of moon & memory kill her to take her power? What happened?!

“Don’t chase fate. Let fate chase you” ~The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by  Axie Oh

After 6 hours, I can say I forgot what it was like to fall in love with a story from being to end.

I really did enjoy this book and the story as well as the characters. The fairytale imagary was there within my mind and the book had a very clear message like most fairytales do. I loved this book and the love and stories it gave.

However, I feel like something was missing and at the moment I can't put my finger on it. Although I prefer the pace to be a little fast, I felt that at times the pace was too quick and I could not follow along with how fast the time was passing by within the book and ended up confused a couple of times.
