This was great. I had beginning to worry that the Jack Parlabane series was going down in quality but I was hooked into this one quickly and it kept my attention throughout really well. The usual Parlabane humour was on point and as always Brookmyre delivered twists and turns and a satisfying ending. Yes!

This is the second book of the Jack Parlabane
series that I have read. I like the author's
writing style and the plots are intricate
enough to keep me interested.
The author does tend to get bogged down
in some slow moving scenes though, and
in both books (this one and in "Black Widow")
I have thought the endings
need to be a bit tighter, more compact.
They tend to drag on as the author makes
every long drawn out attempt to ensure
he's covered all the details.
I'll be reading more of this series in the
future.

A thoroughly enjoyable mystery with twists and intrigue. Fans of Jack Parlabane will not be disappointed as he returns with a whole new set of problems; both personal and professional.

One of the many page-turning thrillers that H owns - i just picked it up.
Did what it said on the tin - a real page-turner that I went through at pace. I found the opening chapters a bit clunky but he more than made up for that.
I've got to stop giving things 5 stars for being what they are. I'll read more Brookmyre but not end to end.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first half of this book, although it wasn't what I was expecting. I have read Chris Brookmyre before, but 10-15 years ago. What I remember was hilarious, whereas this was a straight mystery/thriller.
The second half became a tad too predictable, until the last 40 pages or so. Jack seemed to have regained confidence at the end, so it would be interesting to go back to the beginning of the series or read the next one.
It is scary that the topic of human trafficking is very real and effects a number of desperate people.
